What you have told us

At the recent launch, we presented an overview of the wonderful input on GSIDD that we have already received from our community.
Based on our engagement with organisations and direct input from so many of you, what we've heard is that GSIDD has the opportunity to support the community in six key ways: Knowledge exchange, Research impact, Career growth, Networking, Resource sharing, and Advocacy

Under each of these themes, there are many possibilities - some immediately achievable or already beginning to take shape, and some aspirational and worth highlighting simply to emphasise the value of building our society (so that we can imagine what it might look like in 5, 10 or even 15 years time).
As the formalities of establishing GSIDD - its legal, financial and governence structures - take place over 2026, a critical decision will be how we structure portfolios, sub-committees and working groups to deliver on these identified needs. All of these activities will require the commitment and generosity of members of our GSIDD community, i.e., you! For members by members.
Beyond the wants and needs, what is exciting is that a different breakdown of your feedback demonstrates that we have the capacity and willingness to deliver on them.
The current GSIDD subscriber list of over 600 people includes student, early career researchers, mid-career, and senior scientists. Academia, public and private sectors are also all represented. Where you are telling us of a need, you are also telling us about your ability to contribute, and a major early achievement of GSIDD will be to establish the organisational structures and engaged active ecosystem in which these connections can be realised.

With the February launch done, the next six months will be the time when the formal structures of GSIDD are developed, and then put in place. You have the opportunity to both shape that, and (we hope!) volunteer to make the aspirations captured in the figures above into a reality.
